Julie’s Swing
By Joe Duggan

The hedge moved up and down
In front of Julie’s face.

Each time she went high enough
She could see over the hedge
Out of the play area
And right into the duck pond.

This was her favourite swing in the whole world.

It squeaked a little
As Auntie Jean pushed her
But she liked the squeak
Almost as if the swing
Was talking,
Saying her name,
Each time she was pushed
“Juu-lee, Juu-lee”
It squeaked.

Julie was not very tall
So when she was standing up
Even on her tip-toes
She could not see over the hedge
But on the swing
It felt like she could
Fly over it.

“WHEEEEEEEEE!” She shouted.
